Cropping advice
[edit]File:Native American woman known as Skak-Ish-Stin wearing Hudson's Bay Co blanket and labret in lower lip, Alaska, ca 1904 (NOWELL 85).jpeg is a historical photo with a lot of white space on each side. Do you think it would be okay to crop it? It looks to me like a scan that accidentally happened to include more than the original photo, but maybe I've missed something. - Agreed. I've cropped to the edge of the original print. As that's an archival object, any further cropping should be done as a derivative. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 09:59, 17 May 2025 (UTC)
- That looks great. Thank you. WhatamIdoing (talk) 19:09, 17 May 2025 (UTC)
File rename
[edit]Hello Pigsonthewing, wondering if this file should be renamed because of #2. Thank you for your time. Lotje (talk) 15:33, 26 July 2025 (UTC)
- Done. If you wish to rename any other files in that series, please note how I did this one, retaining the original file name. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 15:38, 26 July 2025 (UTC)
Non-free artwork - Black Sabbath
[edit]Heya, thanks for being eagle-eyed, but I assumed surely that Black Sabbath Boards.jpg would pass by Wikipedia's Non-free Content Policy. The "no free equivalent" doesn't apply here, as I took the photgraph myself. "Respect for commercial opportunities" is acknowledged here, as the photo doesn't impact the commercial viability of the original work. If the photo were closer, more centred with clearly legible text on the descriptions of each photo, or multiple photos showing all of the boards, as theres a lot of them (which would also break the third rule, "Minimal usage") then I would 100% understand, but the photo's are surely not high enough resolution to impact the artwork. Let me know if ive misunderstood anything, but as car as I can tell the photo falls completely within the non-free image policies.
I have replied on both this page and the image page, wasnt sure where was best, so feel free to ignore one. Jpdfive (talk) 20:06, 30 July 2025 (UTC)
- That's a Wikipedia policy; this is Wikimedia Commons, and it does not apply here.
- By all means upload the image at Wikipedia, with that non-free rationale. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 20:19, 30 July 2025 (UTC)
- Got it. I didnt realise tere was a distinction and thought there would be crossover. Ta very much Jpdfive (talk) 20:31, 30 July 2025 (UTC)
