A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Atyap people.jpg, was missing information about where it comes from or who created it, which is needed to verify its copyright status. The file probably has been deleted. If you've got all required information, request undeletion providing this information and the link to the concerned file (

If you created the content yourself, enter If someone else created the content, or if it is based on someone else's work, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Cropped Nok sculpture of a sitted person.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{self|cc-zero}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

Translation assistance
[edit]Hello @Kambai Akau, I noticed you attempted translating the Wiki Loves Africa main page. I am writing you to provide a guide to the correct translation process: the page was created using a collection of templates. To make a succesful translation, you have to translate the individual templates here first.
Let me know if you need any help with this. Thank you! Wilson (talk) 00:21, 23 March 2023 (UTC)
- Okay, wow! Ah. I was wondering why the items to be translated were not showing. Now I understand. The translation takes the pattern of a Wikipedia homepage wherein different templates constitute the very page and all get translated individually and then they appear on the mainpage, right!? When I encounter any challenges, I would prompt you. Thanks, Wilson. Kambai Akau (talk) 17:46, 23 March 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Sir Dominic Gambo Yahaya KSM 2.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Sir Dominic Gambo Yahaya KSM 2.jpg]] ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

Warning
[edit]Hi Kambai Akau. I noticed that you've made a malformed deletion request: using wrong parameters and omitting transclusion, the subpage, year, month, and day. Here, {{Delete}} is not for speedy deletion, please see COM:DP. When you want to delete a page by manually using the {{Delete}} template (rather than the automatic Nominate for deletion or Nominate category for discussion tool in the Tools menu on the sidebar per COM:DR#Starting requests and COM:CFD#Starting requests), you must follow the instructions in the template, including the "Click here to show further instructions" portion (or Commons:Deletion requests/Listing a request manually policy or the "By hand" portion of COM:CFD#Starting requests, normally collapsed), otherwise you will create a lot of work for other people. Warning: such edits are not tolerated and have led to account blocks, as "We cannot work here with people who are not willing to follow our procedures, in particular for deletion requests." — 🇺🇦Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 15:20, 10 January 2024 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:3rd Community Meeting - TWUG-Video.webm.
Thank you. |

- Hi @JWilz12345, I have seen the reason for the deletion. But what about if the license is changed to a non-commercial one? Kambai Akau (talk) 00:16, 18 October 2024 (UTC)

- Oh, ow. Okay, @JWilz12345. Too bad they have to go. We really need a change in Nigeria regarding the freedom of panorama law. Warm regards, Kambai Akau (talk) 01:21, 20 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Kambai Akau yes, sadly. It would have been better if the Nigerian legislature included "photographs" in the panorama exception of the revised 2023 Nigerian Copyright Act, not just two allowed media types (audio-visual and broadcasts). COM:FOP Nigeria gives the FoP situation of Nigeria. The restrictive FoP is not retroactive (in which pre-March 2023 uploads of contemporary architecture and monuments are still OK to be hosted here), though it limits the scope of future Wiki Loves Monuments coverage in Nigeria to just older monuments, whose architects or sculptprs have died for more than 70 years (it may misrepresent Nigeria's culture and history here, so it's somehow disadvantageous). JWilz12345 (Talk|Contributions) 13:13, 20 October 2024 (UTC)
- It would really be quite a great limitation indeed. Should the laws remain for some more time, when we run out of monuments older than 70-years-old, we would have to relax our participation from Nigeria. Quite a setback! Thanks for taking time to explain this, @JWilz12345. Warm regards, Kambai Akau (talk) 17:50, 20 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Kambai Akau I would also like to share this info: much of Africa is a "no-FoP world" (File:Freedom of Panorama world map.svg). Perhaps some of you (the Nigerian Wikimedians) are aware of the challenges the South African Wikimedians are facing in introducing FoP in their country. The issues on the lack of FoP in both Nigeria and South Africa are just on the tip of the iceberg of the no-FoP problem in Africa; there are multiple countries that are members of OAPI (for example, all of your neighboring countries Benin, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, and Niger), whose prevailing treaty (the Bangui Agreement), pre-emptively mandates a non-commercial Freedom of Panorama as given by Annex VII, Part I, Article 16 of the treaty. This immediately prohibits any Wikimedia-suitable FoP from being introduced and implemented in these countries, which is a big challenge for Wikimedians in these countries. A Wikimedia-suitable FoP allows images of copyrighted public monuments and landmarks to be licensed freely (so can be used in post cards, travel websites, or even advertising) without the need of licensing clearances from sculptors or architects, in accordance with Commons:Licensing#Acceptable licenses. You can ask on my talk page if you have more questions on Nigerian as well as African-wide FoP. Regards, JWilz12345 (Talk|Contributions) 02:47, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
- No, I definitely will ask if I have more questions on this. But this explanation is quite clear. It's a pity that we are in such a messy situation at the moment. We'll find a way around the situation sooner or later, I believe. Thanks and warm regards, @JWilz12345. Kambai Akau (talk) 00:31, 22 October 2024 (UTC)

Source of derivative work is not properly indicated: File:Flier - Tyap Community - Africa Wiki Challenge 2025.jpg
[edit]![]() |
This file may be deleted. |
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Flier - Tyap Community - Africa Wiki Challenge 2025.jpg, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.
While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you! |
